Engine Warning Lights, Explained

A warning light records that a vehicle system needs attention, but the colour and vehicle behaviour determine the urgency.

Red warnings

Stop safely when a red oil-pressure, overheating, braking, or charging warning appears. Continuing can cause severe damage or reduce vehicle control.

Amber warnings

An amber engine light normally allows a careful journey for diagnosis when the vehicle drives normally. A flashing engine light, loss of power, smoke, or severe vibration requires you to stop.

Diagnosis

A fault code is a starting point, not a parts order. Good diagnosis combines codes with live data, wiring checks, and the symptoms you experienced.
